Easter Seals Southern Georgia host 2nd Annual Heels and Wheels Challenge
(ALBANY, GA)- On Saturday, August 25th, Dr. William Fricks and his wife, Lindsay, traveled to Waycross, GA to compete in Easter Seals Southern Georgia’s 3rd Annual Heels & Wheels Duathlon/Triathlon. Dr. Fricks finished the triathlon with a time of 1:10 which placed him third in the men’s 40 – 44 age group. His wife, Lindsay, placed first in the women’s novice division with a time of 1:36 in the duathlon. This event was the first triathlon ever held at Laura S. Walker State Park. All the proceeds were to benefit Megan’s House.
Easter Seals will host a similar event in Albany on Saturday, September 29th at the Albany Area YMCA Sports Park. The 2nd annual Heels & Wheels Duathlon to benefit Megan’s House will consist of a two mile run, followed by an eleven mile bike course, and finish with another two mile run. This event is brought to Albany through support from CVS Caremark, Reeves Construction Co., Women’s Health Professionals, The Albany Area YMCA, The Columbus Organization, Mediacom, PMF, and Georgia BioMass. Megan’s House is a respite home for children ages 0-17 who have developmental disabilities, autism, or are medically fragile. Direct care is provided by qualified, experienced Direct Support Professional and individualized care plans are developed by the Registered Nurse on staff. Megan’s House is available for a minimum of 24 hours to a maximum of two weeks per visit and may serve up to two children at one time. Services are provided in three locations, Albany, Valdosta and Waycross. The cost to the family is determined by a sliding fee scale and scholarships are available.
