Staff Reports
Harry Douglas is a name that many Atlanta Falcons fans tend to forget. After all, he’s on the depth chart behind Pro Bowler Roddy White and now second year sensation Julio Jones. However, Douglas doesn’t let that get to him. Instead, he sees his job to get yards after the catch. In an interview shared on the Falcons’ website, Douglas said, “I think if you’re a skill player, one of your top focuses should be yards after catch or yards after carry or after contact.”. He went on to say, “That’s part of being an explosive player. I focus real hard on that.”
Douglas said he expects to face a lot of single coverage as defenses focus on the dual threat of White and Jones. “There’s going to be double teams all over the field,” Douglas said in the interview. “We’ve got high-quality players, especially at the skill positions. A lot of times I’m going to be one-on-one, so I want to win those matchups.”
Last season, Douglas gathered 246 of his 468 receiving yard after the catch. He’s long been considered an explosive player, but now Douglas has been trying to add to the intellectual side of his game. Much of his off season was reportedly spent watching film to better learn how to get open more often.
