ALBANY– Darton State College soccer will host conference-rival South Georgia College on Wednesday in the first home games of the 2012 season.
The Lady Cavs are scheduled to kick-off at 6 p.m., and the men’s game will follow at 8 p.m. Both events are free to the public to enjoy.
“They are a formidable opponent – it will be good test for us,” said Darton head women’s soccer coach Ken Veilands, whose Lady Cavs are currently ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA. The matchup will be the first game of their regular season.
On the men’s side, Darton head soccer coach Bart Sasnett expects a very physical contest stemming from a long rivalry between the two programs that may have begun when Darton ousted South Georgia for a Region XVII Championship title in 2002.
His Cavaliers returned Sunday from two wins in Texas over San Jacinto College and No. 4-ranked Tyler Community College. The Cavs are currently ranked No. 3, and will host the NJCAA D-I Men’s Soccer Championship in November.
