Staff Reports
The Atlanta Braves needed a win Wednesday night. A loss would have not only been a sweep of the series by the Washington Nationals, but would have put them eight games behind the National League East leaders. Luckily, Kris Medlen understood that perfectly well and delivered as he improves his record as a starter to 4-0.
Seven definitely seemed to be Medlen’s lucky number as he allowed seven hits and struck out seven as he pitched seven shutout innings. Medlen has a 1.86 ERA this season.
Pitching alone can’t win games though, but Medlen has Martin Prado, who hit a two-run double in the fifth, giving Atlanta an early 2-0 lead.
Washington’s lone run came unearned after Medlen had left the game.
Atlanta will now face off against Leesburg’s own Buster Posey and the San Francisco Giants.
