Staff Reports
For some, Mondays are horrible. Last night it seems, Mondays are A-OK for the Atlanta Braves as Jason Heyward homered and Ben Sheets pitched into the eighth inning as Atlanta beat the Phillies 6-1. Atlanta is 11 for 13.
Dan Uggla had two hits, Freddie Freeman knocked in two runs, and Brian McCann went 2-3 with an RBI as the Braves continued their winning ways.
Sheets (4-1) had his longest outing since becoming part of the rotation on July 15. He had been forced to miss last season following Tommy Johns surgery in August of 2010. Sheets lowered his ERA to 1.13.
In contrast, losing pitcher Vance Worley (6-7) had his shortest outing of the season, pitching just 2 2/3 inning and giving up four runs on six hits and three walks with just two strike outs.
Atlanta picked up a half game on the first place Washington Nationals.
