The advisor of the Albany State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will serve as chairman of the SIAC SAAC Council. Stan McCormick was selected as the first-ever chair of the conference’s SAAC organization.

SAAC is a NCAA-mandated committee made up of student-athletes from each sport and cheerleading who provide insight on the student-athlete experience and offer input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect the lives of student-athletes.

“I am humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to serve the schools in the SIAC and represent Albany State University,” said McCormick.  “It is a good feeling to know that I will have an impact on the well-being of student-athletes.  I look forward to working with the SIAC staff to produce an even more effective SAAC program for our conference.”

McCormick, who is also the assistant head men’s basketball coach, has served as the advisor for the ASU SAAC for five years.  He led the organization to the 2011 and 2012  SIAC SAAC Citizenship Award and runner-up finishes in 2008, 2009 and 2010.  During the 2011-2012 school year, the ASU SAAC was named a finalist for the NCAA Division II Community Engagement Award of Excellence.

“Coach McCormick really deserves this honor,” said Stephanie Harrison-Dyer, ASU assistant director of athletics. “He does a great job with our SAAC program and works very hard.  I believe he will do an excellent job in this position.”
