Albany, Ga. –-The summer season will kick into high gear when “The Dixie Swim Club” opens Thursday, June 7 for a two weekend run at Theatre Albany.

Written by the team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, “The Dixie Swim Club” portrays five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team. They set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. The play focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. “The Dixie Swim Club” is a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.

“Although, it’s an all female cast, it is by no means just for the ladies,” observed Mark Costello, the plays’ director, “men will get a kick out of it too.  It’s a perfect show for the summer, especially if people are looking for some great entertainment.”

Featured in the cast are Deborah Liss-Green as Dinah, the wise-cracking cynic of the group; Francie Michas as Lexie, a true Southern Belle; Kelly Mullin as Jeri Neal, the ditzy ray of sunshine of the group; Flo Reneau as Sheree, the perennial team captain; and Kathleen Stroup as Vernadette, a hard luck case if there ever was one.

Mary Lou Beasley is the stage manager and is being assisted by Becky Parker.  Stephen G. Felmet has designed the set, Sarah Donnan has created the costumes, Ann Brim Streat and Karen McNally are in charge of make up, Sheila Phillips is assisting with costume changes, Courtney Lawson is handling sound, and  Kimberly Lawson is manning the light board,.

Performances are scheduled for June 7, 8, 9 / 14, 15, 16 at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees June 10 and 17 at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at (229) 439-7141.
