Alice Rogers, 90

Alice Rogers, 90, of Bronwood, Ga., died June 13, 2012 at the Lillian Carter Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Grady Morey will officiate.  Interment will follow at Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Perry, Fla., Mrs. Rogers spent most of her life in Tallahassee, Fla. and moved to Bronwood, Ga. from Lee County, Ga. in 2009.  She retired from the Florida State Industrial Commission and was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God in Tallahassee, Fla.  Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Rogers Styron and a son, Edgar Rogers Jr.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Butch Wester of Lee County, Ga., seven grandchildren, Ed Rogers, Joanna Lanier, Jonathan J. Ahn, Clint Styron, Marina Hamil, Clay Wester and Heather Waltermon, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for one hour before the services at Mathews Funeral Home.

Josephine “Jo” Keen Simmons, 83

Josephine “Jo” Keen Simmons, 83, of Albany, died Thursday, June 14, 2012.

Her funeral service will be Sunday 2 p.m. at Morningside Cemetery, Rochelle, Ga.  The Rev. Tommy Baker will officiate.

Mrs. Simmons was born in Dodge County and had lived in Albany for many years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Albany.  Mrs. Simmons had worked with Civil Service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Fenn Simmons; her parents, Joseph George Keen and Louise Williamson Keen; and her brother, John C. Williamson.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by her son:  David J. Simmons, Albany; a daughter:  Karol Whittlesey and her husband George, Tallahassee, Fla.; her grandson:  George S. Whittlesey, IV, Laguna Nigel, Cal.; 2 nieces:  Kay Dorsey, Abbebville, Ga., Vicky Williamson, Rochelle, Ga.; a great niece:  Dr. Julie Sarris, Charlotte, N.C.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Saturday from 4-6 p.m.

Frances Chandler Hand, 68

Frances Chandler Hand (Mrs. Fred B. Hand Jr.) 68 of Pelham, Ga., died June 14, 2012 at her family home at Lake Blackshear.

Her funeral service will be Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Kimbrell- Stern Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Hand was a native of Albany and was preceded in death by her parents, William Marcus Chandler and Joan Battey Chandler of Albany.  Born November 22, 1943, in Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia, Mrs. Hand was a homemaker.

She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and graduated from Florida Southern College, in Lakeland, Florida. She was a teacher for the Dougherty County Board of Education for a number of years having taught in junior high and grammar school.

Mrs. Hand was a member of the Junior League of Albany, a life time member of the Albany chapter, of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, a member of the Pelham Garden Club having served as President, Vice-President and Treasurer. She was a member of Hand Memorial United Methodist Church, and a former member of First United Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia.

She is survived by her husband: Frederick Barrow Hand Jr. of Pelham, Ga.,  brothers Dr. William Marcus Chandler of Warwick, Ga., Robert Battey Chandler and wife Fran of Tifton, Ga., Porter Edward Chandler of Tallahassee, Fla.,  sisters: Kathleen Chandler Hornick and husband Art of Leesburg, Ga., and Ann Porter Chandler of Pelham, Ga.; nephews,  W. Adam Chandler, Jonathan P. Hornick (wife Tobilyn), Chadwick W. Chandler, Wesley J. Chandler, and nieces, Katherine Chandler Heacox ( husband Jason), Joan Chandler Hornick, Casey Sue Chandler, and Blakely Grace Chandler. Great nephews: Jonathan P. Hornick Jr., Toler L. Hornick, and Hunter L. Heacox. Great niece: Chandler Hope Heacox.

Ruby Diane Mixon Davis

Ruby Diane Mixon Davis, 2605 Ledo Road, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Her funeral service will be Monday 10 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with interment in Riverside Cemetery.  Rev. Charlie Rouse and Rev. Stan Glass will officiate.  The family will receive friends Sunday 4 to 6 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern.

A lifelong resident of Albany, Mrs. Davis was a 1963 graduate of Albany High School a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church and was retired from Davis Vitamin Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Ruby Mixon.

Survivors include her husband Jack Davis, Albany; sons, Thomas N. Burnett III and wife Jennifer, Albany, Bryan Burnett and wife Becca, Leesburg, sister Faye Wildes and husband Roy, Leesburg; brothers, Johnny Mixon and wife Sherry, Ft. Gaines, Ronnie Mixon and wife Carol, Warren, N.C.; grandchildren, Bryce, Blake and Charlie Burnett; aunt Frances Mixon, Albany; special cousins Horace Spires and Cora Sue Creamer and a number of nieces and nephews.

Howard Alvis Hewett, 88

Howard Alvis Hewett, 88 of W. 2nd Ave. In Albany died June 14, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern, Dr. William (Butch) Knight officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery with military honors.

A native of Albany, Mr. Hewett was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church, the Elks Club and owner of Advance Plumbing Co. for 45 years. Mr. Hewett served in the United States Navy during World War II. He loved to dance, fish and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a loyal Atlanta braves fan.

Survivors include his daughters, Paula Fore and her husband Donald of Albany, Jeffie Casey and her husband Steve of Ormond Beach, Fla., grandchildren, Jeff Dunham, Jason Hewett and his wife Anna pepper, Kelli Fore and Brooke Hayes, sister-in-law, Frances Lancaster, special friends of the family, Nita Hall and Angie Smith both of Albany and many special friends at the elks lodge and the American legion.

Mr. Hewett was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Cobb Hewett, son, Jerry Hewett, granddaughter, Heather Hayes, one sister and three brothers.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern, and will be at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Donald Fore 2105 Cameron Drive, Albany, Ga. 31721.

Robert James Crutts, 65

Robert James Crutts, 65, of Albany died June 15, 2012 at Phoebe North Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Monday, June 18 at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Moye officiated.

A native of Sussex, N.J., Mr. Crutts had resided in Albany since 1970 moving from Califon, N.J. He was an elevator operator at Flint River Textiles and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Crutts was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D, Crutts and Evelyn Spargo Crutts.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Rowe Crutts of Albany, a brother, Charles Crutts Jr. of Sparrowbush, N.Y.
