Ricky Jay Bowden, 54

Ricky Jay Bowden, 54 of Lovers Lane Road in Dawson died May 3, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be Saturday 4 p.m. at Sasser United Methodist Church, Rev. Wesley Kaylor officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Cuthbert, Ga.

A native of Albany, Mr. Bowden has lived in Terrell Co.; Ga. since the early 1980’s where he was a member of Sasser United Methodist Church. He was formerly employed with Carlton Co. in Albany for 17 years. Some of Ricky’s enjoyment in life was bass fishing, playing his guitar and playing drums for a local band. Ricky had a kind and gentle spirit, and a great sense of humor. He will always be remembered for the love he gave to his family, especially his new granddaughter, Adison.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Dwaine H. Bowden of Dawson, daughter, Blayke Bowden Usry and her husband Pierce of Dawson, granddaughter, Adison M. Usry of Dawson, mother, Grace D. Bowden of Albany, brother, Harold Dwayne Bowden of Albany and sister, Rita B. Hall and her husband  James of Albany.

Mr. Bowden was preceded in death by his father, Reed Harold Bowden.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern.

Bessie Idell Bell, 86

Bessie Idell Bell, 86, of Leesburg, Ga., died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Hardy G. Owens will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.

A native of Pitts, Ga., Mrs. Bell had resided in Albany, GA before moving to Lee Co., GA thirty years ago.  She was a member of the Albany Primitive Baptist Church and was the former owner of Miss Bessie’s Store.  Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ward Bell, three brothers, H.G. Owens, L.S. Owens and Jim Owens and two sisters, Thelma Benson and Evelyn Onspaugh.

Survivors include two sons, John Bell of Madison, Ala. and James Bell and his wife, Chan of Sale City, Ga., four grandchildren, Capt. John Bell, CWO Derek Bell, Jeb Bell and Bob Bell. Five great-grandchildren, Conner Bell, Anthony Bell, Charlie Bell, Owen Bell and Aidyn Bell.

Scott S. Ellis, 50 

Scott S. Ellis, 50, of Albany, GA died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at his residence.  Funeral services were held Thursday, May 3 at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Gerstal and Rev. Mike Davis officiated.  Interment followed in the Sumner City Cemetery, Sumner, Ga.

A lifelong resident of Albany, Ga., Mr. Ellis graduated from Albany High School in 1979 and was a supervisor with the City of Albany.  He was a member of The Pointe and Grand Island Country Club. Scott was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Albany Bass’n Buddies.  He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Ellis and his brother, Mark Ellis.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn Ellis, and his daughter, Preslee Jordan Ellis both of Lee Co., Ga. and his mother, Karen Ellis Haman of Albany, Ga.
