The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently named All-Region honorees for NCAA Division II outdoor track & field, and the Albany State University track and field coach, along with several ASU student-athletes were honored. ASU student-athletes, who were among the 171 South Region athletes recognized, dominated in the SIAC with 36 total All-Region selections, including 19 Lady Rams and 17 Golden Rams. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region’s top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2012 outdoor season.
Head coach Kenneth Taylor was honored as the 2012 South Region Women’s Track and Field Coach of the Year. Taylor,
who earned SIAC Championship Coach-of-the-Year honors, led ASU to a No. 1 ranking in the South Region.
Leading the race for Albany State was Isaiah Leggette, who received All-Region honors in four events, including the high jump, long jump, triple and the 4 x 100-meter relay. Untayous Benson and Garrett Reynolds received honors in three events each, including the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the 4 x 100. Terrio Leverett received honors in two events, including the 200-meter dash and the 4 x 100. Jordan Thompson also picked up regional honors in the 400-meter hurdles and the decathlon. Timothy Jackson earned honors in the pole vault, while Tabareyon Jones received honors in the 400-meter dash. Rounding out ASU men’s honors was Terry Orange, who received an honor in the 800-meter run.
On the women’s side, Brittany Carter and Irrion Conaler led with three selections each. Carter received honors in the 800-meter, 1500-meter and 10000-meter runs. Conaler picked up honors in the 400-meter hurdles, 4 x 400-meter relay and the heptathlon. Also receiving recognition for all-region performances in the 4 x 400 were Jasmine Dalton, Britney McBride and Chelsea Johnson. Jasmine Grovenor had an all-region performance in the 100-meter dash, while Laterria Staton earned recognition in the 100-meter hurdles.
In field events, CreeAnn Perkins earned honors in the discus and shot put, while Shabreka Carter received honors in the discus and hammer throw. Raven Norwood was honored in the pole vault; Brittany Dean in the shot put; and Laura Horton in the hammer throw.
The SIAC was well represented with 74 student-athletes from the conference receiving honors. The SIAC totaled 120 All-South Region selections with 65 women selections and 55 men selections and 42 different female athletes.
A total of 1,274 athletes received 1,854 USTFCCCA All-Region nods. The USTFCCCA regions match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.
