Carl August Hamburger
Carl August Hamburger of Albany died March 17, 2012. A private funeral will be conducted March 20, by the Reverend Dr. James Bullion.
Mr. Hamburger was born in Wiesbaden, Germany July 4, 1922. He immigrated to the United States in 1938. He joined the U.S. Army on July 4, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Cavalry during the war and as an interpreter in Rosenheim, Germany.
After separation from the service, he attended the University of Georgia. He received a B.A., an MBA and an LLD at the University. He moved to Albany in 1952 and was involved in several businesses during his active years.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary R. Hamburger, a sister Frances Bunzl of Atlanta, nieces Suzy Wilner and Tricia Bunzl, a great niece Anna Wilner, children Suzy S. Bolton of Midlothian, Va. and Larry Styles and his wife Jane of Earlysville, Va., Michelle Wetherbee of Clarkesville, Ga., Putney Wetherbee and his wife Margaret of Jacksonville, Fla., grandchildren Robin Pickett and husband Bryan of Athens, Ala., Bill Bolton and wife Angela of Leesburg, Va. and 7 great grandchildren.
Mr. Hamburger was preceded in death by his parents Arthur A. Hamburger and Anna Kahn Hamburger, his first wife Lucille C. Hamburger and his nephew Richard Bunzl.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7 on Tuesday afternoon at the family residence. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Willson Hospice House, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or The Albany Museum of Art.
