Roy Landis Pippin Sr. 72

Roy Landis Pippin Sr. 72, of Albany died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held Thursday 2 p.m. at Sherwood Baptist Church.  Rev. Michael Catt and Mr. Ross Powell will be officiating.  A private burial will be held earlier Thursday morning.

Born in Tallahassee, Fla., Mr. Pippin owned and operated Walker Heating and Cooling Inc.  He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and had served as Chairman of the Deacons.  Mr. Pippin joined Gideons International in Valdosta in 1964 and was ordained as a Deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta in 1965.

He was preceded in death by a brother James Pippin and his parents Lloyd and Follis Pippin

Survivors include his wife Betty Jo Pippin of Albany; a son R. Landis Pippin Jr. of Albany; two daughters Pamela Pollock and her husband Kevin of Lee County; Angela Hastings and her husband Joe of Albany; two grandchildren Josh Pollock and Amanda Pollock; two great-grandchildren Jordan Heath and Hunter Letlow; three sisters Dorothy Showalter and her husband Bob, Frances Cleland and her husband Willard, and Doris Hurst and her husband Vernon; a sister in law Carolyn Pippin; two brothers in law J.L. White and his wife Fran and Rodney White and his wife Nancy.

The family will receive friends following the service at Sherwood Baptist Church.

Joseph Henry Mathis, 81

Joseph Henry Mathis, 81, of Albany died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran LCMS. Rev. Earl Steffens will officiate. Interment will follow at Andersonville Nat’l Cemetery with full military honors.

A native of Mayo, Fla., Mr. Mathis had resided in Albany for the past forty two years. He was retired from the Army and later owned and operated Joe’s Appliance and Refrigeration Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 30 and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Heathcote Mathis, Albany, four daughters, Teresa Lopez, Oklahoma City, Okla., Patti Jarrett and her husband Jimmy, Albany, Lisa Gann and her husband Richard, Albany, and Melodie Freeman and her husband Tim, Daviston, Ala., five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family is at the residence of Patti and Jimmy Jarrett, 114 Eight Mile Rd., Albany, Ga.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services at Trinity Lutheran LCMS, 1508 Whispering Pines Road, Albany, Ga. and at 114 Eight Mile Road on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
