The art talent of students in Dougherty and Lee counties will be on display again this year, as the schools and the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County set the scene for the 2012 Student Art Competition & Exhibit.
The contest is open to public and private schools in both counties and more than 300 entries are expected this year, the 32nd consecutive year the Dougherty Kiwanis Club has sponsored the event.
A schedule of events associated with the art competition has been set.
Judging of the art entries is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, at the Albany Area Arts Council building. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony and reception set for 2 p.m., Sunday, March 18, at the Albany Museum of Art. Student art will remain on display in the museum’s Willson Auditorium through April 13.
On April 15, winning elementary school art will go on exhibit in the Sears wing at Albany Mall, where it will remain until Sunday, April 29, when it will be replaced by the winning middle and high school art entries. Albany Mall will sponsor an elementary art reception to honor the young artists on Friday, April 20, from 4-5:30 p.m.
The middle and high school exhibit will be in place at the mall until Sunday, May 13.
On Monday, May 14, an awards luncheon honoring art contest winners and their instructors will be held in conjunction with Kiwanis of Dougherty County’s weekly meeting at the downtown Albany Hilton Garden Inn. The event will be held from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m.
On Saturday, April 28, the Kiwanis Club Art Committee chair will deliver the top eight local art entries to Georgia Kiwanis District statewide competition at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center in Carrollton.
