Jean Nowlin Owens, 83

Jean Nowlin Owens, 83, of Albany died Monday, February 13, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Her funeral service will be Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.  The Rev. Dr. Don Adams will officiate.

The family is at the residence of Ronnie and Becky Owens, 711 Seventh. Ave., Albany, Ga. 31701, and they will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. Owens was born in Charles Town, Ind., and was the daughter of the late Milton Evans Nowlin and Margaret Catherine Hall Nowlin.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Albany, the Garden Club, and the Dougherty County Library Board.  Mrs. Owens was a former member of Radium Country Club, and Doublegate Country Club.  She managed and was part-owner of the Hasty House Restaurants for many years.  Mrs. Owens was a distinguished caterer for over 45 years in Albany, including catering at Radium Country Club and the Exchange Club of Albany.  She authored her own cookbook titled “At Your Request.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dawson Owens, Albany, and her son, Kevin J. Owens, Albany; 2 brothers, Wesley Edward Nowlin and James Nowlin; a sister, Shirley E. Hawkins.

Mrs. Owens is survived by four sons, Blanton Owens, Macon, Ga., Cliff Owens (Martha), Ronnie Owens (Becky), and Chuck Owens (Beth), all of Albany; a daughter, Kathy Jean Owens, Panama City Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Ashley Owens Wood (Rob), Boston, Mass., Jeremy Owens, Burlington, Vt., Dawson Owens, III and Kristine “Tine” Owens, Albany, Peston Laird (Krissie), Savannah, Bryan Owens, Henrico, Va., Shannon Owens and Daniel Adcock, Albany, Erin Adcock, Duluth, Ga., Blake Owens and Nowlin Chase Owens, Albany, Angie Morey (Jeremy), Albany; great grandchildren, Julian Alexander Wood, Boston, Mass., Nowlin Chase Owens Jr. and Tyson Lee Owens, Albany; her beloved cat, “Booger.”

Connie Attaway Wallis, 56

Connie Attaway Wallis, 56, of Albany died Friday, February 17, 2012 at her residence.  A memorial service was held Sunday at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Bobby Moye officiated.

A native of Newnan, Ga., Mrs. Wallis grew up in Newnan and had resided in Albany since 1972 moving from Fitzgerald, Ga.  She was formerly employed with Bank of America, was currently the owner and operator of Mayberry Diner and was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Michelle Mock and her husband, Titus of Lee County, Ga., her mother, Elizabeth (Liz) Hall Bryan of Albany, two grandsons, Zach Mock and his wife, Erica and Andrew Mock and his wife, Haley all of Lee County, Ga., two great-grandchildren, Caleb Mock and Kiernan Mock, four sisters, Judy Attaway of Albany, Rita Pate and her husband, John of Gulf Shore, Ala., Melinda Grandits of Albany, and Bonnie Welch and her husband, Steve of Moultrie, Ga., a brother, Allen Payton, and his wife, Sandi of Dawson, Ga., nieces and nephews, Macie Pate, Elaina Pate, Abby Pate, Amanda Pate, Parker Grandits and his wife, Sara, Olivia Grandits,  Brittany Welch, Payton Welch, Austin Stone and his wife, Kimberly, Gabby Payton and lifetime friends, Wanda and Robby Ash and their children, Chris, Shae, Mel and Shelbi.
