Darton College Softball Sweeps Darton Tournament, Improves To 6-0

2/6/2012 (ALBANY) – The Lady Cavaliers swept the Darton College Softball Tournament Friday and Saturday in Leesburg.

The No. 18-ranked Darton program beat Andrew College 4-1 and Wallace Dothan 8-3, and shutout East Georgia College 1-0 and Georgia Military College 7-0.

“We’re certainly going in the right direction,” said Darton head softball coach David Dews. “But we have a lot of work to do.”

Sophomore pitcher Katie Willis earned the Lady Cavs’ two shutouts, striking out 13 in seven innings with East Georgia. She struck out eight more in another seven innings with GMC.

Sophomore infielder Erica Vasquez went two for three with Andrew, hitting one RBI and scoring once. She was one for three vs. East Georgia, with a RBI that drove in Chantelle Curinton to win the game.

Curinton would later go two for four vs. Wallace Dothan in game four with a double and two RBIs. Freshman infielder Jessica Vasson went three for four, and freshman outfielder Chelsea Showers went three for four, stealing four bases and scoring three runs.

The Lady Cavs play again Feb. 11 and 12 in Bay Minette, Ala., in the Faulker State Tournament.
