Special to the Journal

Albany ARC is hosting a major fundraiser on March 15 at 7:00 p.m. for their Master’s Level Special Olympics Program. The St. Patrick’s Day event is a “Patty Party” where one lucky leprechaun will leave with a new Rolex Watch or $15,000! At 7:15, 20 tickets will be chosen to be a part of a reverse raffle. The Patty Party will also be the debut event for the newly restored building, located in downtown Albany at 226 West Broad Avenue, across from the Albany Chamber of Commerce.

Along with the chance to win the Rolex watch, or the “Pot of Gold” valued at $15,000, the $100 ticket to attend the event includes admission for two people, four drink tickets, and food provided by River Front BBQ. Also at the event, Mr. Bob Brooks, owner of the building, will be offering tours of the newly restored banquet, party and conference center, which is one of Albany’s most historic buildings and is expected to be one of the centerpieces of the downtown restoration project.

All the proceeds raised from this event will be used to support the athletes in the Master’s Level Special Olympics Program at Albany ARC. The Masters Level Special Olympics program is a year-round program of physical fitness, sports training, and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for adults with intellectual disabilities. The program is unique in that it accommodates competitors at all ability levels by assigning them to “competition divisions” based on both age and actual performance ability. The funding from this event will be used to cover equipment, transportation and per diems the athletes need when they travel to regional and state competitions for Special Olympics.

Albany ARC is encouraging two people to buy a ticket together and split the cash! Even four people could split the cash! Pick a pal and purchase a ticket together for your chance in the Modified Reverse Raffle where 20 tickets will be picked at 7:15 to be a part of the Reverse Raffle. You don’t have to be present to win, but you can’t win without a ticket.

Dr. Doug Lorber will serve as the Master of Ceremonies and Raffle Master for the Albany ARC Patty Party on March 15 to help raise funds for the Albany ARC Masters Level Special Olympics Program.

Serving as the MC, Lorber will be providing his special blend of humor and shenanigans throughout the evening, and as the Raffle Master, he will lead the guests through the evenings selection of tickets for the Reverse Raffle and the selection of the winning ticket.

When the Event Committee Members decided they needed someone in this capacity, only one name was nominated – Doug Lorber. Everybody knows that when Doug is around, the party is sure to be a success – plus you never know what is going to happen!

For tickets or to purchase tickets online to the casual dress event visit http://albanyarc.org or contact Laura Calhoun (229) 347-3910. You do not have to be present to attend.

Join the fun and help send the Albany ARC Special Olympians to the 2012 Olympics!
