What are your plans this New Year’s Eve? How about winning a pair of diamond earrings, eating some of the best cuisine in town or dancing the night away? And, if you think that sounds like a big city night – think again. This New Year’s Eve, you can enjoy all this and more, right here in Albany.

On Dec. 31, 2011, the Junior League of Albany, Georgia, Inc. (JLA) will host “A Night That Glitters,” a swanky, formal New Year’s Eve celebration. Taking place at the newly refurbished Merry Acres Event Center ballroom, “A Night That Glitters” will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at 1:00 a.m. The evening will feature the musical stylings of The New South Players, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash only bar. Event tickets are $50 per person and all proceeds benefit Albany Autism Center, Children’s Miracle Network and the Lily Pad.

But, that’s not all! Be sure to take part in the Champagne Raffle for a chance to win a pair of one-carat diamond earrings from Allen’s Jewelers, valued at $4,000. Just stroll over to the “Diamond Bar” to purchase a champagne glass for $50, and you will have a chance to win the grand prize! In each engraved champagne glass there’s a pair of earrings; however, only one glass contains the real diamonds. As a souvenir, non-winning guests can keep their champagne glass and pair of cubic zirconia’s. Everyone will get some bling, but only one will win the real thing! A limited number of glasses will be sold, and you must be present to win.

Additionally, to add to the excitement of the night, Tony’s Fitness Group will sponsor the midnight ball drop and be on hand to offer fitness information for anyone looking to jumpstart their New Year’s resolution.

Event co-chairs, Leigh Ann Shipley and Staci Wright are thrilled about “A Night That Glitters” and hope this will be the first of many successful formal New Year’s Eve events.

“Typically, many people travel other places to celebrate New Year’s Eve because they say ‘there’s nothing to do in town,’” said Leigh Ann. “This year, we want to encourage people to stay here and enjoy this fun night Albany has to offer – all while supporting three amazing organizations.”

“We are working hard to make sure this is a fun, memorable event for all those who attend,” adds Staci. “This is something we are really excited about and want the community to get excited as well. Everyone should come ready to celebrate!”

Members of all surrounding communities are invited to this evening full of glitz, glamour and gems. Event tickets are $50/person and Champagne Raffle tickets are $50/each. Tables are also available for $500. Tickets to “A Night That Glitters” can be purchased on JLA’s website, http://www.jlalbany.org/, as well as at Blush, Place on the Pointe and Southern Elegance. Tickets for the Champagne Raffle will also be available at the event; however, advance purchase is encouraged since only a limited amount will be sold.
