12/7/11 (Albany) - The NJCAA national office recently announced Darton College sophomore Sashanna Campbell to its All-America 2nd Team.
The Manchester, Jamaica, native led the league in goals (36) and total points (90). She ranked eighth in assists (18).
“I believe it’s a practical world, and that I can earn anything,” Campbell said. “I believe in hard work.”
Her relentless offensive threats held a major role in Darton’s 2011 NJCAA Championship Runners-Up finish.
However, she was upset with herself after her team did not win the national title, she said, but the clouds parted when one of her teammates sent a text message telling her “congratulations” and that that she earned the All-America honors.
“At the end of the final game, after we lost, I was crying,” she said. “Deep inside I’ve been feeling down because, despite the kind words of my teammates - who are telling me that I did all that I could - I feel like I could have done better.”
Campbell said she hasn’t been able to really sit back and reflect on her accomplishments, as she’s focused on her studies during this week of final exams.
Also she is getting a lot of attention from four-year colleges that seek her transfer. Presently she has not chosen a university, but is leaning toward University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.
