President/CEO of Chamber accepts new position at local company
(Albany, Ga.)- Catherine Glover, President and CEO of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, resigns her position to pursue a new career at Equinox Chemicals, Inc. She will stay on through January 4, 2012 before going to work for the local organic synthesis research and manufacturing company as its Executive Vice President of Global Business Development.
“After 22 years in Chamber management, I have the opportunity to explore a new career without leaving the town I love, and working for a company that believes in Albany as much as I do,” says Glover.
Mark Grimaldi, CEO of Equinox Chemicals says, “As Equinox continues to grow to meet the global customer demand we are excited to have Catherine join our team. Her leadership, overall experience, and global business network will be a huge asset to our organization. ”
Judy Randle, Chairman of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Board, says, “We are excited that Catherine will continue to stay within our community and utilize her leadership skills at one of the area’s leading companies.”
The Chamber Executive Board has appointed Bobby McKinney as the Interim President and CEO. He is a past chairman of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Board, past chairman of the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission, current Albany Area Chamber Vice President of Tourism and past president of the Dougherty County Rotary Club. “The Chamber and this community have been a huge part of my life. I am happy to fill in until the right person is found. However, I need to make it clear that I am not giving up retirement, this is just an interim position”, McKinney says.
The Chamber has established a search committee, and will be finalizing the job posting within the next week. The posting will be listed in print and online publications such as the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE) and the American Society of Association Executives (ACCE).
The Chamber is eager to continue the successes established under Glover’s leadership, which include:
- In 2011, the Albany Area Chamber was the first chamber in the state’s history to be awarded accreditation by the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE).
- In 2009 and 2010, the Albany Area Chamber was second in the nation for the Chamber of the Year Award, designated by American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).
- To date, have developed the most successful and unique anti – poverty process in the Strive2Thrive program.
The Chamber will move swiftly to find an energetic visionary that can continue to maintain and create relationships within the community, while achieving the objectives of supporting economic and community development.
