Rams drop to No. 7 in NCAA regional poll

The Albany State University Golden Rams drop one spot to No. 7 in the second NCAA Super Region Two Poll, which was released today by the NCAA. The 7-2 Golden Rams, who entered the poll last week at No. 6, defeated Benedict College 37-13. The Rams are 6-2 in regional play.

Upsets in regional play bumped two teams from the top three. Delta State University, which is 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the region, held on to the No. 1 spot, while Mars Hill College (7-2, 7-1) jumped from No. 2 to No. 3 after defeating Tusculum College 47-37. West Alabama (7-2, 5-1) jumped from No. 7 to No 3 after a 31-26 upset over North Alabama (6-2, 3-2), which fell from No. 2 to No. 4. Independent North Greenville (7-2, 6-1) held on to its No. 5 spot after defeating Catawba 25-7, and Valdosta State (6-3, 6-3) dropped from No. 3 to No. 6 after a 23-20 loss to West Georgia. With Albany State (7-2, 6-2) at No. 7, Morehouse College (7-2, 6-1) keeps its No. 8 spot after defeating Fort Valley State University 49-12. UNC-Pembroke (7-2, 7-2) enters the poll for the first time at No. 9 after defeating … and West Georgia (5-3, 5-3) enters at No. 10. Stillman College and Lenoir-Rhyne dropped from the poll.

The regional rankings are voted on by the NCAA Division II Football Committee and are the official poll used in the selection process for the NCAA Division II playoffs. The top six teams from each of the four super regions will advance to the playoffs, with the top two teams receiving first-round byes. Rankings will be released each week until the end of the regular season through Nov. 12, with championship pairings announced on Sunday, Nov. 13. The championship game will be played at Braly Municipal Stadium and hosted by North Alabama in Florence, Ala.

The Super Region Two includes teams from the SIAC, South Atlantic Conference, Gulf South Conference, as well as Division II independents North Greenville and UNC-Pembroke.
