Theodora Elswick Hansen, 57

Theodora Elswick Hansen, 57, of 204 Elizabeth Ave., Albany died Sunday, November 20 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. No services will be held.

A native of Elkview, W.V., Theodora had lived in Albany since 1992 moving from Cuthbert, Ga.  She was a Teacher at Radium Springs Middle School and was preceded in death by her father, Theodore R. Elswick.

Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Andrew and Rexella Hansen of Douglasville, Ga., and John and Derica Hansen of Albany, her mother, Rosemary Speer and her sister, Lynn Cisneros both of Colton, Cali., two grandchildren, Mark and Thea Hansen of Albany.


Infant Landon Mark Manry

Landon Mark Manry infant son of Mark and Stacey Manry of Albany died Saturday, November 19 at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Ga. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, November 23 at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Ken Chancellor officiated.

Landon was born on October 11, 2011 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Ga. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Martha Lunsford.

Other survivors include, maternal grandparents, Bruce and Alice Ramsey of Albany, paternal grandmother, Linda Manry of Arlington, Ga. and paternal great-grandfather, Raymond Lunsford of Arlington, Ga.

Pamela Davis Austin, 58

Pamela Davis Austin, 58, of Woodstock, Ga. died Thursday November 24 at The Willson Hospice House in Albany.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Lake Blackshear Baptist Church with interment in Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Ga.  Rev. Phil Streetman officiated.

Born in Albany, Mrs. Austin graduated from Darton College and Georgia Southwestern College with honors.  She taught school in Lee County, Columbia County, and Cherokee County. Mrs. Austin was a member of Lake Blackshear Baptist Church and former member of First Baptist Church of Albany.

Survivors include her husband Mike Austin of Woodstock, Ga.; a son Clayton Austin and his wife Anne Marie of Marietta, Ga.; a grandson Jackson Davis Austin of Marietta, Ga.; a brother Alton Davis and his wife Nina of Lake Blackshear; her parents Maxwell Davis and Elizabeth Davis of Albany.

Marthanne Stocks Bruner, 80

Marthanne Stocks Bruner, 80, of Lee County, Ga., who died November 23, was conducted Saturday at Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Matthew Nance and Rev. Charlie Brown officiated. Colby Bruner Moore, Eric Bruner, Jack Daniel Garrett, Ry McRee, Scott Bruner and Jonathan Dyal will serve as active pallbearers. Interment followed in Thundering Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Bruner was born to the late Edward and Greta Knight Stocks and was native and lifelong resident of Lee County, Ga. She was a 1947 graduate of Albany High School and early in her career, she was employed as a dental hygienist for Dr. Arnold and Dr. Greene. Mrs. Bruner was also employed with Dr. Charlie Holman for twenty five years as a medical assistant and was employed with Albany Internal Medicine when she retired.

She was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bruner was very active at Byne volunteering in the Nursery, with the Young Married Couples and sang in the Choir.

Survivors include her husband, A.M. (Tony) Bruner of Lee County, Ga., a son and his wife, Andy and Kim Bruner of Marietta, Ga., two daughters, Amanda McRee of Albany, and Kelly Moore of Lee County, Ga., seven grandchildren, Ry McRee and his wife, Candy, of Smithville, Ga., Greta Austin and her husband, Bruce, of Lee County, Ga., Mandy Anderson and her husband, Jon, of Savannah, Jessica Bruner of Woodstock, Ga., Eric Bruner of Marietta, Ga., Colby Bruner Moore and Jetta Rose Moore, both of Lee County, Ga., and nine great-grandchildren.

Gilbert Madison Burdette, 79

Gilbert Madison Burdette, 79, of Albany, was born on November 24, 1932 and died November 24 at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, November 28 at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Charlie Bridges and Rev. John McComas officiated. Interment followed in Crown Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

A native of Birchwood, Tenn., Mr. Burdette had resided in Albany since 1964 coming from Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Navy from December 7, 1951 to December 5, 1955. Mr. Burdette was employed with Western Union and GTE for forty five years.

Mr. Burdette was a member of Radium Springs Baptist Church and attended the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. He was also a member of South Knoxville Masonic Lodge #769 F&AM, and he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and was a member of Hasan Shriners where he logged over 42,000 miles taking children to the Shriners Hospitals.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Norma Johnson Burdette of Albany, three daughters, Tina B. Morris (Larry) of Charlotte, N.C., Denise B. Reaves (Ed) of Leesburg, Ga., Tracy B. Keller (Matthew) of Albany, a brother, Pat F. Burdette (Arlene) of Chattanooga, Tenn., five grandchildren, Garrett M. Reaves (Corinne) of Baconton, Ga., Matthew W. Reaves of Leesburg, Ga., Ashley Bagwell (Keith) of Belmont, N.C., Katelyn Morris of Charlotte, N.C., Madison Keller of Albany,  a great-grandchild, Genevieve Wade Reaves of Leesburg, Ga. and best friend, Nat Carson of Albany.

He was preceded in death by his father, George F. Burdette, his mother, Neva B. Burdette and two brothers, Baxter Burdette and Carson Burdette.

Virginia Dunn Agee, 88

Virginia Dunn Agee, 88, Canton, Ga. former resident of Albany died November 27 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.

Funeral Services will be Thursday 11 AM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Nancy Scarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

She was born April 18, 1923 in Funston, Ga. and spent most of her life in Albany before moving to Canton, Ga. in 2009. She was married to the former Charles W. Agee of Albany.

Mentoring young ladies in life and in sales was Virginia’s favorite part of working at Merle Norman Cosmetics. Virginia was a long-time member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, serving with the XYZ Club and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She also participated in many social organizations, including Ladies of Nasah and The Albany Women’s Club.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Constance Visco of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Virginia Katherine Visco and Carson Anthony Visco of Atlanta, and Summer Lauren Simpson of Albany. She also had a son, previously deceased, Kenneth Michael Simpson of Albany.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
