The Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County was honored on October 24 for its partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany in the Bringing Up Grades (BUG) program, an initiative designed to boost student confidence and academic performance in Albany/Dougherty County schools. Pictured, Boys & Girls Club board chair Mike Mars presents the State Program of the Year Award to Kiwanis DoCo president Todd Butler and BUG program coordinator Dorene Parker. BUG rewards students with tangible celebrations like pizza and ice-cream parties for their achievement in raising letter-grades levels and working to achieve long-term goals. Within the Kiwanis club, captains and volunteers work to coordinate the BUG program with the faculties at numerous schools.
