One thing that has been consistent about the Albany State Golden Rams football team in recent years is that it wins the games that it is supposed to win.

But not Saturday.

Paralyzed in the second half by the Lane defense, the No. 12 Rams lost 26-24 to the Dragons in Jackson, Tenn. It was a first Rams’  first loss to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe; the two teams tied once — in 1966.

The Dragons (3-3 overall; 1-2 in the SIAC) limited the Rams (4-2, 2-1) to 52 yards of offense in the second half. In the Rams’ final two possessions after narrowing the Dragons’ lead to 26-24 with a 39-yard Brandon Hamilton early in the fourth quarter, the Rams’ offense lost 41 yards.

In addition to sacking SIAC MVP Stanley Jennings three times for losses of 17, 12 and 12  yards, the ASU quarterback was held to 8-of-20 passing for 160 yards and a touchdown.

Lane quarterback McKinsley Marbury finished 18-of-25 passing for 142 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for 142 yards and three touchdowns.

ASU hosts Morehouse at 7 p.m. Saturday.
