Sallie L. Smith Breeden, 95

Sallie L. Smith Breeden, 95, of Leesburg, passed away Monday, Oct. 10 at Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 at First Baptist Church of Leesburg. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Rev. Bobby Moye, Rev. Kelly Pritchett and Rev. Bobby Harrell will officiate. The Fidelis Sunday School Class will sit in an honorary group.

Born June 15, 1916, in Crisp County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Quinn R. Smith and the late Minnie Blizzard Smith. Mrs. Breeden was a homemaker for 29 years, raising eight children before being employed and retiring with the Lee County School System.

She was a lifelong and active member of the First Baptist Church of Leesburg. Mrs. Breeden served on the Baptism and Benevolence committees and was an active member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Mrs. Breeden was preceded in death by her husband, Dock R. Breeden Sr. and a daughter, Laura Breeden Jackson.

Survivors include her children, Luther D. Breeden and his wife, Dee, Dock R. Breeden Jr. and his wife, Angie, Norman R. Breeden, Billy H. Breeden and his wife, Joy, Donnie Breeden and his wife, Wanda, and Connie Bacon all of Leesburg, and Jerry A. Breeden and his wife, Terry of Vienna, Ga., 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Lee Breeden of Marianna, Fla.

The family will be at Mrs. Breeden’s residence, 229 Leslie Hwy., Leesburg.

Earl Davis, 67

Earl Davis, 67, of Albany died Saturday, Oct. 8 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church. Dr. Charlie Rouse will officiate. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va.

A native of Portsmouth, Va. Earl resided in Albany since 1982 moving from Gainesville, Fla. He was an accountant with the Marine Corps Logistics Base and the District Health Department with the state of Georgia. Earl retired at the age of 62 because of health reasons. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ralph Davis Jr. and Sybil Summerfield Davis, a step-son, Keenan Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Stultz Davis of Albany, a daughter, Melissa Marquardt (Jeff) of San Diego, Calif., two step-sons, Robert Lee Diamond (Cristi) of Warner Robins, Ga., Kevin Jones (Kristy) of Lynchburg, Va., two sisters, Patricia Davis of Leesburg, Ga. and Sherry Davis of Albany, two brothers, Robert Michael Davis (Lisa) of Albany, and William Ralph Davis III (Leigh) of Canton, Ga. and six grandchildren.

Taplin Burton “T.B” Hambrick, 90

Taplin Burton “T.B” Hambrick, 90, of Albany, died Sunday, Oct. 9 at his home.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 at First Baptist Church of Albany with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Butch Knight will officiate.

Mr. Hambrick was born in Moultrie, Ga. and graduated from Moultrie High School in 1938. He worked at Friedlander’s in Moultrie selling shoes. He came to Albany on February 10, 1940 to work at My Shop selling shoes. He married Ruby Helen Green on November 23, 1940. Mr. Hambrick began working with the U.S. Post Office as a rural letter carrier on February 16, 1942. On May 23, 1944, he joined the U. S. Navy and was discharged in 1946. He was in charge of the Fleet Post Office. Following his discharge, he returned to the Post Office and remained until his retirement in January of 1981. In 1949, he began an outboard motor repair business that became Albany Outboard Marine, which was also a Mercury Outboard Dealer. In 1950, Mr. Hambrick helped found the Albany Boat Club. He was an avid salt water fisherman. He knew how to put the trout in the boat and make fishing a fun and great experience. His favorite spot was Sportsman’s Lodge in Apalachicola Bay, Fla. Mr. Hambrick was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Albany. He was confirmed at the age of 12. He was an active member and past president of NARFE. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Hambrick Martin Gray.

He is survived by his wife: Ruby Helen Hambrick, Albany; 2 daughters: Tappie Sauls and her husband Earl, Albany, Kemberle Sturgill and her husband Ron, Pineville, Ky.; a son: Mark B. Hambrick, Whitesburg, Ga.; a sister: Leigh Bitely, Humble, Texas; grandchildren: Derek Sauls and his wife Susan, Keith Martin and his wife Susan, Luke Perry, Trevor Perry; great grandchildren: Pearce Rowland, Grace Sauls, Taplin Sauls, David Martin, Spencer Martin, Kate Martin, Reid Martin.

Michael Darro Nelson 66

Michael Darro Nelson 66 of 4115 Irene Lane Albany died on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. A Memorial Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Baconton, Ga. Rev. James Edwards officiated. Full Military Honors were rendered following the church service.

Mr. Nelson was born August 22, 1945 to the late Charles and Lois Jackson Nelson in Englewood, New Jersey. He was a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Baconton, Ga., American Legion Post 30, Disabled American Veterans and the Fleet Reserve Post 339. Mr. Nelson was a Retired Military Veteran having served his country in the United States Navy.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife of 39 years: Mrs. Deborah Ann Bennett Nelson of Albany, three Daughters: Patrice and her husband Michael Brown of Atlanta, Stefanie Harris of Atlanta and Alyce Nelson of Waycross, Ga. Four Sons: David and his wife Annika Nelson of Indianapolis, Ind., Peter Nelson of Atlanta, Michael and his wife Jennifer Nelson of Calif., Nakia and his wife Sarita Nelson of Germany. One Brother: Richard Nelson of Washington State. 18 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild also survive.

Edna Foster Stone

Edna Foster Stone, 2420 Whispering Pines Circle died Sunday, Oct. 9 at her residence.

Her funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with Rev. Jeff Apperson officiating.

Born in Wheeler County in 1922 the daughter of the late Hugh and Leila Harville she was a homemaker and for 11 years worked with Dub Cone’s Shoe Store in Midtown Mall in Albany. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and emeritus member of the Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, two brothers and six sisters, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Heyward Foster of Bainbridge and husband of 12 years, Ralph Stone, formerly of Albany.

She is survived by her faithful Chihuahua, Nikki, daughters Carol Smith and husband Howard, Albany, Shirley Irwin and husband Jim, Burlington, Ontario Canada; son, John Foster and wife Debbie, Satellite Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Brad Smith and wife April, Melbourne, Fla., Drew Dixon and husband Scott, Albany, David Williamson and wife Vicki, Tampa, Fla., Dan Molinaro and wife Cari, Tallahassee, Fla., Chris Foster and wife Betty, Melbourne, Fla., Sara Foster, Satellite Beach, Fla., and a sister Mae Palik, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Frank J. Surface, 80

Frank J. Surface, 80, of Albany died Tuesday, Oct. 4 at his residence.

His funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 7 at Liberty Parkway Church of God, interment followed in Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Horne officiated.

Born in Holdenville, Okla., Mr. Surface had lived in Albany since 1970 after retiring from the United State Air Force. He also retired from the U.S. Post Office here in Albany. Mr. Surface was a member of Liberty Parkway Church of God.

Survivors include his wife Frances Surface of Albany; two sons Frank E. Surface and his wife Alice of Albany; Preston M. Surface and his wife Anna of Alma, Kansas; a daughter Fran Marshall and her husband Lee of Ft. Stewart, Ga.; a brother Claude Surface and his wife Louise of Albany; a sister Josephine Koontz and her husband Paul of Spring Hill, Kansas; five grandchildren Mike Surface, Chad Surface, Justin Surface, Kendra Surface, J.J. Harris and a step-granddaughter April McLeod; one great-grandchild Dillon Surface and step-great-granddaughter Everleigh Carroll.
