This is a photo from the 1960s of singer-actor Ed Ames and a young fan. Ames played “Mingo” n the TV show Daniel Boone. Ames was not Native American; in fact, his parents were Jewish Ukrainian immigrants. Ames had also been a member of the popular singing group, The Ames Brothers, in the 1950s. Many of TV’s biggest stars and personalities came to Albany to help raise money for telethons, which usually were held at the Municipal Auditorium and televised by WALB-TV. One Vintage Albany member commented that Ed Ames sang the song, “Yellow Bird” to her over the telephone at one of the local telethons.
