9/28/11 – (ALBANY) Carlos Trombino Filho’s epic goal changed everything.
The Sao Paulo, Brazil-native squared up in the seventh minute and ripped a game-winner from 20 yards that blasted into the side netting and left a diving South Georgia College goalkeeper in its wake.
Head men’s soccer coach Bart Sasnett called it “as impressive a goal I’ve ever seen on that field.” But the goal did more than just stun the defending team and capture yet another Cavalier win.

It improved the Cavs to 9-1 and now the raters of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the National Junior College Athletics Association agree that Darton College is the No. 1 men’s program in the NJCAA.
It’s been battle after battle as the Cavs consistently moved up in the national rankings. Tuesday’s game was no exception. Despite the many build-ups created by Darton’s midfield and forwards, Filho’s early goal would be the only one of the match.
The closest the Cavs would come to scoring again would be in the 37th minute, when freshman Jaylon Bather would connect with a free kick from teammate Diego Ramos, only to have an outside back from South Georgia dive into the goal and head the ball away just inches before it crossed the goal-line.
Going into the second half, South Georgia College dropped back to bunker into their goal. It seemed they planned to hold the score to 1-0 and then strike later in the half.
“That made it really, really frustrating,” Sasnett said.
Still, the Cavaliers managed to keep South Georgia down to three shots on goal. Sasnett commended the play of his defense and midfield.
The Cavaliers are scheduled to host Georgia Perimeter College Saturday at 2 p.m. Perimeter is consistently one of the best teams in the NJCAA and should be eager to try and knock the Cavaliers down a peg after suffering a 4-2 loss to the Cavs, Sept. 3.
