With wins against Division I Savannah State University and formerly ranked Wingate University, the Albany State University Golden Rams continue to climb to the top in the national football polls.
The Golden Rams moved up one spot to No. 6 in the American Football Coaches Top 25 coaches’ poll. ASU’s Sept. 17 opponent, Valdosta State University, moved two spots to No. 12 after defeating Newberry College 24-17. Both Albany State and Valdosta State jumped two spots in the D2Football.com Division II Top 25 poll. Wingate, ranked No. 23 last week in the AFCA and No. 24 in D2Football.com, was dropped from both Division II polls.
The defending SBN Black College National Football champions, Albany State are up one spot to No. 2 in this week’s SBN Black College Football Poll, behind the 1-1 South Carolina State Bulldogs. The Golden Rams hold on to the No. 1 spot in the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division II HBCU Top 10. Other SIAC school also included in the HSRN poll are Morehouse College at No. 5, Tuskegee University at No. 6 and Kentucky State University at No. 7. The Rams are ranked No. 5 in both the Boxtorow HBCU Football Media Top 10 and Urban Sports Network Black College football polls.
The Golden Rams will face the Valdosta State Blazers on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Albany State University Coliseum in Albany, Ga. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
