One of my favorite TV programs is Dan Rather Reports. Since he left his anchor position with CBS, he has been doing a fantastic job of reporting about very important things that are going on in the USA and the world.
One night, his topic was about where the jobs have gone in our country, spotlighting Microsoft in Seattle, American Express in Phoenix, and other large companies. These companies have gotten rid of a lot of their employees, many of them very successful people who have been with their company for many years. They dismissed them without a tear, quickly, after they trained the people who were replacing them.
These people, many of them Indian, are trained and then go back to India where they live like a king or queen on incomes of only a fraction of what the American worker was getting paid here in the good ole USA. And we wonder what is wrong and why so many of our people are out of work. Why don’t we take care of our own people instead of doing this to them? Well, it is good old-fashioned greed. The Indians, Chinese and others overseas will work for much less and the American companies can make much more money doing business this way.
So, when all the jobs are given to all these overseas people who we can’t understand, when we are forced to talk to them on the telephone, then what are we going to do? We are in big trouble in this country and we are little by little putting ourselves out of business. We already are bankrupt with China and other countries loaning us so much money that they really are in control of us in this global economy. And, we keep doing stupid things like borrowing money and giving it to other countries. How in the world can we be giving all this aid to others when we are broke? What is it that I don’t understand?
We don’t have the money to give any foreign country one penny. We aren’t the big shot we once were and we have to start accepting that. One of our biggest expenses is the wars that we are involved in. We can’t afford to be in wars when we don’t have the huge amount of money it takes to run them.
It is time that we wake up and get people in our government that will get us out of debt and operate within a balanced budget like every properly run household is run. We can’t have our people come home from armed services and live on the streets and under bridges and without proper medical care. They have risked their lives to make sure that we can live without worry that someone is going to harm us because we don’t believe in their religion … and we treat them like this! We should all be very ashamed, don’t you think?
I guess basically that I am saying that we need a reality check. We have all these reality shows on TV. We need one big one about the United States of America. Keep this all in mind the next time that you go to the polls and vote.
