This vintage match cover depicts the New Albany Hotel at Pine and Jackson streets. It advertises the hotel as being “fireproof”. Many hotels of that era claimed to be fireproof, a practice that was abolished after the tragic Hotel Winecoff fire of Dec. 7, 1946. Vintage postcards of the New Albany Hotel also proclaimed it as being fireproof. This is one of morethan 2,600 images of Albany that can be found currently in the Vintage Albany Georgia collection on Facebook.
