(ALBANY) – The men’s and women’s cross country teams will be able to race for their third-straight GCAA titles right at home.
The cross country coaches of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association voted today that the Region XVII Championship will be held at Darton College, on Cavalier Trails, Oct. 29.
“Getting this bid itself is a win for our program,” said Head Coach Bruce Skiles. “Our runners can sleep in their own beds the night before the race and won’t have to deal with any travel.
“Plus our course is flat and fast, and with this late-season race we should see some ‘best times’ out of these athletes.”
This will be the third time the program has hosted the Region Championship. The host site for 2009 was (Bruce) Skiles’ Farm, and in 2010 the race was held on the new “Cavalier Trails” located predominantly in the wooded area behind the soccer complex.
Both the men and women Cavaliers will race for a “three-peat” win, as both teams won the conference titles in 2009 and 2010.
