ALBANY — Darton College Assistant Softball Coach Sam White recently spoke to the Dawson Rotary Club about the growth of Darton College.
White spoke about the opening of the new housing apartments. He talked about the college’s sector change from two-year to four-year status and what it will mean for the economic development of southwest Georgia. He also addressed Darton’s athletic success and future efforts to build on that success.
White gave an account of how the softball team reaches out to the community in ways such as their visit to Phoebe Putney’s children’s wing and other team-building activities. He spoke about his and Head Coach David Dews’ dedication to the academic, social, and conditioning aspects of their players while they are at Darton and after they move on to other schools.
After White’s speech, the club went outside to view a fast-pitch softball demonstration from team members Bryana Contreras, Holly Smith, and Jenny Willis.
