The Albany State University women’s sports program will sponsor camps for youths this month. The Volleyball and Softball Skills and Fundamentals camps, which will be held at Albany State’s HPER Gymnasium Arena from 9 a.m. until noon, are open to boys and girls age six and up. The volleyball camp will be held July 19-21, and the softball camp will be July 26-28.
The camps are $50 each, and the softball camp will feature additional pitching lessons on July 29 for an additional $15.
The Fundamental Camp will be conducted from 9 a.m. until noon, and the Elite Camp will be conducted from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The camps will offer instructions on shooting fundamentals, dibbling, passing, defense and teach the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. There will be enrichment sessions throughout the camp that will focus on drug awareness, time management, and the importance of education, according to head coach Chris Cameron.
“We wanted to offer our youths exposure to different sports through a camp environment,” said Robert Skinner, head coach of the ASU women’s basketball, volleyball and softball coach. “In addition to learning basic volleyball and softball skills, youths will have lots of fun through the camps.”
For more information about the camps, contact the Albany State University Athletics Department at 430-475 or Skinner at 430-3817, or e-mail robert.skinner@asurams.edu.
