SuperKidz triathlon set for July 23

Children ages 4-17 are invited to take part in the Albany Area YMCA SuperKidz Triathlon on Saturday, July 23 at 8:30 a.m. at the YMCA Sports Park, 4508 Gillionville Road.

Kids who enjoy swimming, biking and running will compete with others in their own age group. The top three boys and top three girls in each age group will receive awards. Ages 4 to 6 will be allowed to wear Coast Guard approved flotation devices and use tricycles or training wheels.

The Munchkin group (ages 4-6) will swim 25 yards, bike for ½ mile and run for ¼ mile. The junior group (ages 7-10) will swim 75 yards, bike for 1 mile and run for ½ mile. The senior group (ages 11-14) will swim 150 yards, bike for 2 miles. and run for 1 mile. The varsity group (age 15-17) will swim 250 yards, bike for 3 miles and run for 1.5 miles.

To register, log onto www.active.com, or visit the Albany or Lee Branch YMCA. Take advantage of the early bird registration fee of $20 until July 20. Registration fee will be $25 after July 20. A T-shirt is guaranteed to all early bird registrants.

For children who want to train for this event, the YMCA will offer triathlon training camp July 18-22 from 9-11:30 a.m. Your triathlon registration fee is included with your camp fee. Camp fee is $60 for YMCA members and $90 for non-members.

Participants in last year’s Albany Area YMCA SuperKidz Triathlon get on their marks before a race. In addition to swimming, the July 23 event will include biking and running.
