Members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Carlton Watkins (left) of Washington, D.C., and Glenn Singfield (right) of Albany, present a check for $10,000 to Clifford Porter Jr., vice president for Institutional Advancement at Albany State University to create an endowment in honor of their fraternity brother Albert “Smitty” Smith (’71) of Atlanta, who’s featured on the cover of the Fall 2010 issue of Aspire magazine. The endowment will fund a scholarship that will be named in Smith’s honor and presented yearly to an ASU student. Smith is one of the most notable and recognizable ASU alumni. He’s an ardent supporter of the ASU Golden Rams Football Team and can usually be found wearing ASU and Omega colors as well as his trademark tam. Smith, who’s worked for the Marriott Corp. for more than four decades, has met every U.S. president during that time, played a key role in bringing the 1996 Olympics to Atlanta, and has met many legendary celebrities.
