On May 26, members of the University System of Georgia Staff Council (USGSC) elected two employees from Albany State University to serve in leadership positions on the council’s executive committee.
Albany State University staffers Kim Douglas, secretary in the ASU James Pendergrast Memorial Library, and Joseph West, publications specialist in the Office of University Communications, were elected as vice chair and secretary, respectively during the council’s quarterly meeting held in the Student Recreation Center at Columbus State University.
Elected as treasurer during the meeting was Yvonne Leroy-Landers of Valdosta State University. Nancy Anthony, of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, will be chairwoman of the organization in 2011-12. Anthony served as co-chair during the 2010-11 year with Pierrette Maillet of Southern Polytechnic State University. Maillet who served as chairwoman in 2009-10, will continue to serve as a member of the executive committee in the role of immediate past president.
The organization’s newly elected officers will assume their official duties July 1. Departing executive committee members are Secretary Nicole Lee from Columbus State University, and Treasurer Steven Hayes from Bainbridge College.
The USGSC has been in existence since 1994. Its purpose is to advance the mission of the system as a whole and to promote and foster the welfare of system staff through the combined creativity of staff representatives from system institutions. It is a representative group for all staff members at all institutions of the University System of Georgia.
The council’s 2011 Annual Conference, entitled “WE’RE ON IT! Customer Service in the 21st Century,” will be held at the University of Georgia Oct. 5-6.
