Larry Mallory, 43, of Albany recently won an audition for the X-Factor Show which was held at The Levee on Dawson Road. X-Factor is the new show created by Simon Cowell who was so famous as part of the American Idol Show.
Larry, who works as the manager of medical records at Orthopedic Associates, won because of his outstanding singing. He went to dallas to participate in the next audition held that determines if he will make an X-Factor Show to be televised. In Dallas, he made it to the second round before being cut.
Larry is the only one in his family that sings but his family has encouraged his singing ever since he started it back at Southside Middle School. He said Mr. Moultrie at that school was instrumental in getting him interested in singing and he is so thankful for all the help he received from a number of people besides his family.
Larry graduated from Westover High in 1986. He started singing in his church (Christian Life) choir and that led to singing in a lot of other groups. He was invited to New York City to sign a recording contract with Hush Productions, but that didn’t work out to his satisfaction. He had some great experience as part of the opening act for the famous singer Patti Labelle at the Albany Civic Center and in Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Fla. Larry was also part of a quartet that opened for the Williams Bros., Shirley Caesar Cloud of Joy, and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. He has also cut a record titled “From the Heart.”
We may have another famous singer that will make Albany proud!
