The reception, featuring liquid refreshment and numerous baked goods, was hosted by members of the Albany Mall Fashion Club as guests meandered through the exhibit admiring the many works by art students from public and private schools in Lee and Dougherty counties.
While place awards were not awarded to the elementary students, entries featured in the mall display were considered winners. The exhibited works were chosen by the teachers from the various art classes.
The elementary art was removed over the weekend after the reception, and on Sunday afternoon middle and high-school art instructors were busy hanging works from their classes. (Kiwanis club volunteers helped with unloading and placing the wood-and-latticework display frames and easels.) The entries from the higher grades will remain on display in the wings adjacent to the Sears department store through April 30. First-, second-, and third-place and Best in Show winners are on display separately at the mall in front of The Gap.
The annual Student Art Contest & Exhibit has been sponsored and coordinated ere by the KiwanisClub of Dougherty County for 31 years now. First-place winners from the local contest are entered in the Georgia District of Kiwanis International competition held annually at West Georgia University in Carrollton. Kiwanis co-chairs for this year’s contest are Gail Carter and Ken Rodd.
The Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County will honor all the winners and their teachers at its annual Art Luncheon Monday, May 2, at the Hilton Garden Inn.
