First Baptist Church Albany, 145 Oakland Parkway (two miles past the mall on Highway 82 West, will continue Holy Week Celebration with light lunches at 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. (donation) and services at 12:15 p.m. Maunday Thursday, a Silent Lord’s Supper will be observed between 5 and 7 p.m. Info: 883-8000.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 212 N. Jefferson St., is hosting Downtown Holy Week Services with the theme “Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone?” Wednesday:  The Cross of Forgiveness, The Rev. H. B. Johnson,  Friendship Baptist; Thursday: The Cross of Raising the Dead and Healing the Sick, The Rev. Kenneth McMillian, Hines Memorial CME; Friday: The Cross He Must Bear Alone,  the Rev. Garrett Andrew,  First Presbyterian. Daily Schedule: 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. – first lunch; 12:15 p.m.-12:45 p.m. – worship; 12:45 p.m.-1:15 p.m. – second lunch. Lunch is $6.

Thursday, April 21

First United Methodist Church Albany, 307 Flint Ave., will host the Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. in Building 2 Sanctuary. The Holy Week service will feature piano and handbell music, vocal solos, selected Lenten readings, and medication and communion at the altar. Info: 432-7407.

 

Friday, April 22

First United Methodist Church will host the Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. in the Building 2 Sanctuary. The Sanctuary Choir accompanied by members of the Albany Symphony will present selections from the Easter portion of G. F. Handel’s masterwork Messiah.  Messiah paints a musical portrait of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ using the Scriptures to tell the story.  This story is moving and uplifting each time we hear it—and to hear it again, set to great music will be a treat.  The 90-minute concert is free.

 

Albany Christian Church, 1501 Whispering Pines Road, will host Good Friday Communion Service at 7 p.m. Info: 436-0416.

 

Saturday, April 23

PMS Coffee Shop in Sylvester will present a free concert featuring Everrising with special guest Absolute, along with the Remnant, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sumner Auditorium, 706 Walnut St. Get there early to register for door prizes. Info: 854-2266.

 

Sunday, April 24

Downtown Albany Churches will host an Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. at the Ray Charles Plaza across from the Hilton Garden Inn.

 

First Baptist Church Albany will host Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m., Bible study at 9 a.m., and morning worship at 10:30 a.m.

 

Central Baptist Church, 1618 W. Third Ave., will host an Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. Info: 436-7263.

 

Philema Road Baptist Church, 114 Stocks Dairy Road in Leesburg, will host an Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast. Bring your favorite breakfast foods; coffee and juice will be provided. Sunday-morning service will be held at 11 a.m. Info: 435-3135.

 

The Pointe United Methodist Church, 238 Cedric Street in Leesburg, will have three Easter Sunday Services – at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon. Kids will have an Easter lesson and egg hunt at the first two services. Info: 435-5551.

Albany Christian Church will host Easter Breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

 

Sherwood Baptist Church, 2201 Whispering Pines Road, will host “Discover the Power of  a Story This Easter” at 9:30 a.m. and Bible Study for all ages at 11 a.m. An Easter egg hunt will be held at 11 a.m. for preschoolers. At 6 p.m., the choir and orchestra will perform their Easter concert.

 

Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1501 Newton Road, will host Resurrection Sunday Service at 11 a.m. Info: 436-7476.

Smithville United Methodist Church on Church Street will host a sing featuring well- known local Albany group The Dayspring Trio at 6 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge, but a love offering for the group will be taken.

 

Visitors who show a church bulletin at the Flint RiverQuarium receive a free movie with admission to the Flint RiverQuarium, 117 Pine Ave. Info: 639-2650 or www.flintriverquarium.com

 

MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE Albany, Ga. – An Easter Sunrise Service will be held at Covella Pond here from 7-8 a.m. on Sunday, April 24.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Base Chapel. The event is open to base personnel.
