Joseph B. (Joe) Salter, 82

Joseph B. (Joe) Salter, 82, of Suwanee, Ga., formerly of Albany, died March 16, at his residence. A memorial was held Saturday, March 19 at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Nancy Scarbrough and Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor officiated.

A native of Arlington, Ga., Mr. Salter resided in Albany, more than 50 years. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1945 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from Emory University in 1952. Mr. Salter was a realtor in Albany for many years; he was an active member of the Albany Golden K Kiwanis, the Jaycees and the Albany Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Salter of Suwanee, Ga., formerly of Albany, daughter and son-in-law, Florrie and Tracy Bumpers of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a son, John D. Salter of Albany, and his grandchildren, Raleigh Elizabeth Bumpers, Callie Grace Salter, and Benjamin Avert Bumpers.

Mildred Holt Jones, 87

Mrs. Mildred Holt Jones, 87 of 511 Partridge Drive in Albany died March 17, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Dr. Biff Coker officiated. Entombment followed in Crown Hill Mausoleum.

Mrs. Jones was born March 22, 1923 in Albany to the late Lee Roy and Pauline Spillers Holt. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and later became a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Jones loved to cook and sew, and will always be remembered for the love and devotion she gave to her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, William Cecil Jones, Jr. who died in 1989.

Survivors include her sons, William Cecil Jones, III and his wife Irma of Dillon, Montana and Alan H. Jones of Albany, six grandchildren, Kelley Owenby, Clayton Jones, Katie Jones, Alan Holt Jones, Jr., William Garrett Jones and Parker Middleton Jones, brother, William P. Holt of Bainbridge, GA.

The entombment service was held at Crown Hill Mausoleum.

H. E. Perea

Col. H. E. Perea USMC (Retired) died Wednesday March 16, at his residence. The remains have been cremated.

A memorial service was held Friday at Kimbrell-Stern. Rev. Doug Haught officiated. A private interment will be at a later date at Thundering Springs Cemetery.

Colonel Perea, originally from Clifton, Arizona, made Albany his home following his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1978.

Following completion of his enlisted service in 1947, he attended Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy and earned a BS in Civil Engineering. He was also a graduate of George Washington University, MS in International Affairs, the Naval War College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

During his 32 years of service he served in command and staff billets in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Marine Division FMF, Force Troops, FMF Atlantic and the III MAF. Staff assignments were at DOD HQ Marine Corps, HQ FMF Pacific, Marine corps Schools, Quantico and MCLB, Albany.

He was preceded in death by his son David Perea.

He is survived by his wife, Paula G. Perea of Albany, his daughter, Wanda L. Couch of Marietta, GA, and his Daughter-in-law Dina Perea of Brooks, GA, and his grandchildren, Kristin and Alex Couch.

Martha G. Sellers, 83

Martha G. Sellers, 83, of Americus, Ga., formerly of Albany, died Thursday, March 17.

Her funeral service was held Saturday at Floral Memory Gardens. The Rev. Fred Bell officiated.

Mrs. Sellers was born in Baker County and had lived in the Albany area all of her life. She moved to Magnolia Manor four years ago. Mrs. Sellers attended Seasons Christian Care Chapel and was a member of Senior Friends. She was employed at J.C. Penney and Co. as a sales auditor.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Oland W. Musgrove and by her second husband Ernest L. Sellers. Mrs. Sellers is survived by her daughter Glenda Bennett, Albany; 2 grandchildren: Jennifer Hatcher and her husband Chris, Albany and Brooke Bennett, Albany; a great granddaughter: Reese Hatcher, Albany.

Ashley Allen Pellicano, 66

Ashley Allen Pellicano, 66, of Albany, died Monday March 21, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Tony Haefs will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Sylvester.

A native and lifelong resident of Albany, Mr. Pellicano graduated from Albany High School in 1963. He worked for many years with his father at Pat’s Cycle Shop and retired from Pellicano Construction Co. after 20 years. Mr. Pellicano was a Baptist by faith and was preceded in death by his father, Pat Pellicano.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn H. Pellicano of Albany, two daughters, Lashelle Pellicano Joiner and her husband, Jimmy of Marietta, GA and Kelly Pellicano Shiver and her husband, Clint of Albany, his son, Bryan Ashley Pellicano, his mother, Margaret Baxley Pellicano, two brothers, Tony Pellicano and his wife, Lucy and Barry Pellicano and his wife, Debbie, all of Albany, five grandchildren, Madison Joiner, Carmen Joiner and Morgan Joiner, all of Marietta, and Wesley Shiver and Rilee Shiver both of Albany.
