Albany – A new political blog will hit the scenes in Southwest Georgia. Unlike many political blogs that thrive and partisanship, www.laws-n-sausages.com offers multiple points of view on any given topic.
“I’ve been part of the divisiveness in the past, and while I don’t think we will ever completely escape from it, I wanted to offer something a bit different,” says founder and managing editor Tom Knighton.
“A lot of the perception people have of folks who don’t share their ideology is based on biases that have almost no foundation in fact. I wanted to create a place where all sides can see what all other sides are saying and thinking, if nothing else just so the misunderstandings can end.”
Knighton, a co-owner of the popular regional blog SWGAPolitics.com, hopes that people will come to read the quality content he intends to offer each day regardless of ideology. However, he also knows that spirited debate is inevitable.
“It’s going to happen. People get fired up about politics. Debate isn’t a bad thing though. It’s when things get personal or ugly that they cross the line. That kind of thing won’t fly,” says Knighton. Other than that, he says, anything goes.
Knighton describes the site launch as only the beginning. “I do want the site to be all about a select few. We’re currently working on technology that will allow other people who create their own posts on the site, with some of the better ones making it on the main page.” This feature, called diaries, is fairly common on some of the larger national level blogs, though Knighton isn’t familiar with this technology being used on any regional ones.
“The idea is to really get people invested in the site. After all, everything we’ll be discussing will impact them anyways, so why not let them tell everyone what they think with their own blog posts?”
The site will formally launch on April 5th.
