ALBANY, Georgia – Albany Panther kicker Wes Virgilio was named co-special teams player of the week by the Southern Indoor Football League. Virgillo’s 39-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Panthers to a 30-27 come-from-behind victory over the Louisiana Swashbucklers. Virgilio recovered from missing two PATs by hitting two UNOs and the pressure kick.

“It’s just about (getting) the win,” said Virgilio, who added that he is 4-of-5 in his career in game-winning field goal situations.

The Panthers (1-0) will be making their first trek away from The Jungle on Friday, traveling to the Speed (0-1) who are new to the SIFL.

The Panthers are entering their second season in the SIFL.  The Panthers next home game will be April 2nd against the Columbus Lions at the Albany Civic Center, kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Panthers season tickets and single game tickets can be purchased by calling (229) 435-1230 or going to www.albanypanthers.net.
