This 1960s-era photograph of Laska, pictured here in the 1960s at the Tift Park Zoo, was recently added to the Vintage Albany page on Facebook. When Chehaw opened, Laska was “walked” across town; she died shortly after the move. Laska’s photograph evoked memories on Vintage Albany of a spitting, poop-throwing, cigarette-smoking chimp at the Tift zoo named Joe, along with manates, Willie the spider monkey, another elephant named Daisy, and a toothless lion.
