Whatcha Say, Albany?

THEFT IN ALBANY? DECEPTION in Albany? Surely you jest!

I LOOK FORWARD to the Journal every week to see what’s going on around her

YOU KEEP PRINTING THE same sentence over and over. For some reason every week your paper says, “Alfred Lott won’t answer the Albany Journal’s questions and is illegally withholding public records pertaining to the matter.” Every week!

ANYONE WHO HAS NOT met Rev. Garrett Andrew is invited to First Presbyterian (corner of Flint and Jackson in downtown Albany) Sunday at 11 a.m. You will be pleasantly surprised with what you will hear. Garrett has done so much for Albany. He and his wife, Melinda, have this community at heart.

GARRETT ANDREW SPOKE AT The Anchorage homecoming last year. He was great!

HA HA. FIRED ASSISTANT city attorney Kathy Strang outperformed the attorney that U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop told the city to hire. Boy, did that backfire. Very good article.

IF I READ YOUR story correctly, the police officer verified that Brie Cooley had insurance and then arrested her for not signing a ticket for no proof of insurance? Could the officer prove that he has insurance?

POLITICS IS A DIRTY business and big money makes it dirtier. The indictment of Mike Keown’s campaign advisor is unfortunate but unrelated to the Keown effort. Walker worked for a number of people and I am certain he never gave any indication that problems might arise. Apparently the Alabama situation has been under investigation for some time.

DO WE GET TO VOTE on the city manager? If not who does the hiring. It is sad the state Albany has come to.

THE ALBANY CITY COMMISSION hires the city manager.

IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT we get the government we are willing to put up with. Folks in this area seem willing to tolerate an awful lot–and we get an awful government in reward.

IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE that folks in this area tolerate too much. By and large, given the chance, they all seem to be scoundrels. This governor’s election has the worst possible candidates in at least recent memory and perhaps ever. I am disgusted.

I AM SO VERY tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, especially when the second least offensive candidate will probably proclaim a mandate from the people when he is elected with distaste. What do we do?

IT IS ACTUALLY “the lesser of two weasels” in this case. We have to keep our good eye on the loser who wins and the other eye on the folks running the City government. Need a few more eyes, don’t we?

ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT A great choice, there are three people running for governor.

THE SANFORD BISHOP SCHOLARSHIP awards story keeps getting better and better.

SANFORD BISHOP PAID THE money back. No story.

THE SCHOLARSHPI SCANDAL IS a very basic case of lack of integrity. Paying the money back is not the issue — honesty is!

HE ONLY PAID IT back because he got caught! Bishop knew what he was doing when he crossed this line.

TIPS EQUALS PEOPLE’S LIVELYHOODS! It was a shock to me when it was brought to my attention, by a family member, how many people do not tip their pizza delivery drivers. This might sound menial to most of you with 9 to 5, 40-hour-a-week jobs, but with the economy as it is, especially in this area, jobs are hard to come by. People are making it the best they can and with the best means possible to them. One particular entity (which happens to be a private school in Dougherty County) places very large orders and provides no compensation to the drivers for the delivery. What is that teaching your students? It is teaching them to not respect occupations considered less prestigious in our society? It is teaching them to not value and demean the people that provide them a service? Everyone’s job in this country makes up the foundation of our economy and each one needs to be treated with respect. We need to work together to keep our county going and to keep our economy above water. So please remember to tip servers of any form (pizza drivers, waitresses, waiters, and bartenders) because whether you realize it or not people’s lives are in your hands.

I HAVE KIND OF been in former city HR director Mary LaMont’s situation with Albany government. It starts with the mayor and goes down the line. It is a shame that so much was covered up – and then to make it where things could not been found on her computer, well they are crooks, and some of the best. What they did to you was wrong. Mrs. LaMont, hold your head high and know you have a lot of people behind you and beside you. God bless you.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING NARRATION OF what’s going on at city hall by Mary LaMont. While all the matters in LaMont’s letter need to be investigated and evaluated, special emphasis is needed on the forgery and record-destruction issues. If these matters can be substantiated, Lott should be dismissed immediately-with “bad paper” in hand.

While ex-military officers may make good managers with leadership skills, not all have these characteristics. There are those who require civilian employees under them to walk lock step even when a decision or action is wrong-as the military requires. Perhaps this is how Lott operates. The comment that a white cannot be city manager is disturbing as were the comments attributed to the assistant city attorney.

AD VALOREM TAXES HAVE gone up in each of the last 5 years. For commissioners, the way you calculate that is: Write down the tax paid last year, then write down the tax amount this year. If the first number is larger than the second one, there has been an Increase in the tax.

REGARDING THE LEE COUNTY football prayer issue, consider: “[17] But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” [18] So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. [19] But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, [20] for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” [21] And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.” (Acts 4:17-21 ESV)

MATTHEW 6:6: “BUT THOU when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

THE DAY WILL COME when the person who complained about praying at football games will be on their knees begging God for mercy. God will be there for you because he is a forgiving and loving God. In the name of Jesus, I pray that you will be falling on your knees soon. Everyone’s day comes, it will not be avoided. Let’s see that one person stand up then, for their accounting before our God.

WHO DO YOU THINK the person that complained about prayer at football games calls on when their family is in a crisis. Congrats to the people at Lee County. You won but not but points on the board, but by points of showing people God is good and should be thanked.

SOMEONE COMPLAINED? WELL, I guess one person can make a difference.  Good job Lee County.  I hope all the schools will follow your decision when someone complains about prayer before the game.

LEE COUNTY’S DECISION? DON’T think so. It was a Supreme Court decision that caused this.

OKAY, SOMEBODY EXPLAIN THIS one to me. A person got a ticket for running a red light – the cop saw him run the red light in his rear view mirror, the cop had done went thru the light looked in his rear view mirror and saw the car or truck not sure what it was, run the red light. And the judge sides with the cop. How is this possible? If he saw the light on the other side change this did not mean the other light changed also. He did not see the light at all he was on the back side of it.

I AGREE OUR CITY officials are doing as they please and it needs to stop. It’s like we live in a movie that won’t end.

MAYBE THE POLICE WOULD not need our help if they got out and did their jobs. Most of the time you can find them sitting in the parking lot of the empty Macgregor building in the mornings across from the airport.

THE POLICE ARE NOT just out of control, they make their own laws and the judges back them up. This needs to stop. How can this keep happening and they get away with it?

I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS youth pastor’s wife was in shock, but it is funny how at the scene, she was told that she needed to sign the ticket and she told the officer that she had a officer friend who told her she didn’t have to sign a ticket and she was not signing. Funny how things change when you hear both sides to the story. I am sure that she was upset. But trying to slander the officer is wrong. The officer did not make the law! This is a youth pastor and wife that is teaching their youth that it is okay not to obey the law. Not cool!

THE WORST PART IS not only are these cops out of control, they are very poorly trained.

HOW CAN THEY PROVE stealing from the airport when there is a letter that gave this man the scrap? Too bad Sean Reddish is holding onto what’ really going down at the airport. I wouldn’t be that nice and would sing like a bird if I was him. The lame duck safety department out there has been catching heat from the new assistant director, including the chief himself. They want to get back at Reddish because they are being checked in place ,so they report lies on him to ruin him. The city got his money and free light parts and try to save face because they react to bad lies. Mr. Hogencamp should really be asking about what the FAA found at there and them abusing their police power to get even with reddish. It’s shameful. I know the real problems, so do others, but they are scared to speak up because they will get the Reddish treatment.

ABOUT TIME SOMEONE SHOWED the so-called leaders of Albany that you can’t do just anything you like to anyone and get away with it. I hope and Pray that more tapes come out about our leaders. And I really wish some would get jail time. If it was one of us plain Joes out here, we would. And they are no better. Now if we can just get a judge to do the right thing. If the right Judge gets to trial on some of these cases, maybe we can really get some Truth and Justice for all. I also hope if there are tapes that can help anyone else out here done wrong that will come out also.

I’M A LIBERTARIAN AND I know that police and fire departments are instances of those universal crimes Tom Knighton mentions. Why? Because they operate on tax dollars, which are procured by theft. Also, these operations claim monopolies for themselves, universally in the case of police departments. They prohibit competition. If the government fights monopolies in telephones and oil, why does it ignore its own monopolies?

I THINK MORE PEOPLE would embrace the Libertarian views if they understood them, but the Libertarian party does a horrible job – from the party down to the local levels they are totally arrogant and spend their time criticizing others and the way it is instead of educating others on how it could be. With the current Tea Party movement, the Libertarian Party could be signing up people in droves, but instead they are turning them off. A negative message never works – they need to learn how to focus on a positive message, such as Tom Knighton has done.
