Thanks to Albany State University football fans, Golden Rams junior quarterback Stanley Jennings was named The Heritage Sports Radio Network’s (HSRN) National Player of the Week. One of four nominees for the national football fan poll award, Jennings racked up 543 total votes, 174 more votes than runner-up Walter Sanders, a running back at St. Augustine’s.
Kevin Atkins, the quarterback at Shaw University, received 200 votes; and Kameron Smith, the quarterback at Winston Salem State University received 64 votes.
In the Golden Rams’ 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Morehouse College on Oct. 23, Jennings completed 19 of 31 passes for 202 yards, including the game-winning five-yard pass with 18 seconds on the clock. He also led the Golden Rams in rushing with 73 yards on 15 carries, including a 12-yard TD run. Jennings led the Rams to 334 yards of total offense.
Jennings will lead the undefeated Golden Rams in their final home game as they take on the Stillman College Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Prince Hall Shriners Diabetes Classic. Kickoff is 2 p.m. at the Albany State University Coliseum.
