Despite offensive efforts by Albany State’s Latrice Lewis and Sabrina Garcia, the Lady Rams fell 2-3 to the Claflin University Lady Panthers Sunday afternoon at ASU’s HPER Gymnasium. The Lady Rams lost the first game 20-25, but rallied back in the second game to win 25-22. The Lady Rams lost the third game 21-25, and won the fourth game 25-20. Claflin took the deciding game and beat the Lady Rams 15-8. ASU’s record drops to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in SIAC play.
Lewis recorded 16 kills with nine digs, and Garcia added 14 kills and five digs. Leading the Lady Rams’ defense were Adrienne Morris, who recorded 15 digs, and Priscila Sena with 14. Sena also had 40 assists and six kills. Tiffany Butler scored five kills and four solo blocks during the match.
Lauren Calvin led the Lady Panthers with 17 kills and 13 digs, and Deisha Rivers added 16 with eight digs in the win.
The Lady Rams will play the Valdosta State University Lady Blazers on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. before hitting the road for a five-match series against Paine College, Miles College, Alabama State University, Tuskegee University and Benedict College. The Lady Rams will return home on Oct. 18 to play Clark Atlanta University at 6 p.m..
