Albany State University junior running back Robert Welton is a nominee for the national football fan poll award, presented by The Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN). Welton was selected as one of four nominees for the National Player of the Week award for his stellar performance against the Clark Atlanta University Panthers on Saturday, Sept. 11, 28, at the ASU Coliseum.

Welton finished the game with 103 yards on 14 carries, including two 26-yard touchdown runs, in the Golden Rams’ 28-13 home opener over the Panthers. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry. The Macon, Ga. native led the “Gold Rush” offense to 403 yards of total offense, including 236 rushing yards on the day.

HSRN honors the top-performances on the gridiron for Division I FCS and Div. II each week. To add to the excitement, fans across the country can be a part of the action by casting votes for the player they think had the top performance in HBCU football.  Fans can cast their votes for Welton by visiting www.HSRN.com. Voting will be available on the HSRN.com home page (Fan Poll) until Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CST).

Other Division II nominees this week are Ryan Carter, quarterback at Johnson C. Smith University, Kameron Smith, quarterback at Winston Salem State University, and Malcolm Jenkins, a running back from Fayetteville State University.
