There was a song out in the 1970s by a group named McFadden and Whitehead that was titled “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.” The lyrics of the song were : “There’s been so many things that held us down, but now it looks like things are finally coming around, I know we’ve got a long long way to go, and where we end up I don’t know, but we won’t let nothing hold us back, we’re pulling ourselves together and we’re polishing up our act, and if you’ve ever been held down before, I know you refuse to be held down anymore, don’t you let nothing stand in your way, I want you to listen to every word I say, Ain’t no stopping us now.”
This is exactly what the energy was at the Dougherty County School System-wide meeting held at the Albany State University HPER gym on Aug. 5. After listening to Dr. Joshua Murfree’s State of the School System address, it was very apparent that there is no stopping the Dougherty County School System.
His motto of “Educational Achievement Beyond All Expectations” speaks to who he really is. I have been a resident of this community for 22 years and have been a fond supporter of the school system. The energy and concern that Dr. Murfree has for the students and personnel in the system is second to none. He is concerned about ALL of the employees and students of the Dougherty County School System. With a leader at the helm of this system with that kind of concern, you can’t lose.
Speaking of “Beyond All Expectations”, Dr. Murfree believes in not just graduating students, but making sure they are prepared for life after high school. The expectations of Dr. Murfree and the whole Dougherty County School System is changing for the better. Dr. Murfree believes in holding everyone accountable for the betterment of the children. Education is all about the children and Dr. Murfree is demonstrating that each and every day.
Since the Back to School Pep Rally, Dr. Murfree has been very visible, in the schools, meeting the students and staff. He has also been seen at a number of community and organization events emphasizing the importance of community involvement in educating all of Dougherty County’s children. He firmly believes that you cannot manage or run a school system from Central Office. He believes you have to go out and visit the very people and students you are responsible for.
Moving beyond expectations …ain’t no stopping us now!
