Ellen Odom “Sunshine” Adams, a Cordele booking agent and a singer with the local band “Running Down Romance,” died Saturday in an automobile accident in Crisp County. She was 38 and leaves behind a 16-year-old son.
Authorities said that Adams was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche on U.S. 41 near Rockhouse Road when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. There were no passengers in the vehicle or any witnesses to the accident, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Adams sang at the funeral of accident victim 13-year-old Breanna Peacock. In January 2001, her 2-year-old daughter, Chelsea, 16-year-old half-sister, Heather Beckom, and 13-year-old half-brother, Al Beckom were killed when the vehicle driven by Adams was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer in Crisp County.
Funeral services were scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service with burial to follow in the Story-Odom Cemetery in Worth County.
A Cordele native, Ellen was an active member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Cameron Alton Adams of Cordele; her mother and stepfather, Judith Ellen and Jimmy Shiver of Warwick; a brother, Jimmy Odom of Warwick; a sister, Tonya Whitehead of Cordele; a dear friend, Charles “Bubba” Adams of Cordele; and a her nieces and nephews.
