James Thomas Bailey

The funeral service of James Thomas Bailey, 76, of Albany, who died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, was conducted Monday at Mathews Funeral Home. Jeremy Jones officiated.

A native of Bartley, W.V., Mr. Bailey resided in Albany for 19 years. He was a self-employed jobber with JB Tech Supply, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and he was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Bailey, a sister, June Adams, Coalwood, W.V., many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 1515 Dawson Rd., Albany, GA, 31707. The family is at the residence of Jeff and Sherry Bailey, 6604 Newton Road, Albany.

Christine Fowler Davis

Christine Fowler Davis 74, of Sylvester, died Thursday at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. The funeral service was held Monday at Northside Baptist Church with interment at Isabella Cemetery.

Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester handled the arrangements.

Denise Markowski

Denise McGill Ross Markowski, formerly of Lee County died Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Her funeral service was held Saturday at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors. Interment was in Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton.

Bill Pennington

Bill Pennington, 85, of Albany, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Pennington’s remains have been cremated. The family received friends at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors on Saturday.

Mr. Pennington was born in Wichita, Kans., in 1925. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1958, he moved his family to Albany, where he later retired from the U. S. Post Office.

Mr. Pennington was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Elizabeth.

He is survived by three children, Randy Pennington and his wife Melinda of Suwanee, Ga., Diane Davis and her husband Sonny of Leesburg, and Kay Griffin of Albany. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Miranda Curl and her husband Brent of Duluth, Ga., and Marissa Pennington of Suwanee, William Griffin and Samantha Griffin of Albany, and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Eli Curl both of Duluth, one brother, Jerry Pennington of Wichita. He is also survived by the family pets, Zelda and Murphy.

Mr. Pennington was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved lunch with his family at Picnic Pizza and Sunday-morning breakfast with his daughters.

James Robert Sinquefield

James Robert Sinquefield, 59, of Morgan, Ga., died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Palmyra Medical Center. Funeral services were will be held Friday at New Light Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Marty Burson officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Cuthbert, Robert lived in Morgan all of his life. He was a 1968 graduate of Calhoun County High School and attended ABAC. Robert served in the National Guard and was the owner and proprietor of Sinquefield Mall. He was a member of New Light Free Will Baptist Church and the Calhoun Rifles Camp #1855 Sons of Confederate Veterans. Robert was a legendary dove hunter and fisherman, story teller and history buff.

Survivors include his parents, Tommy and Faye Avera Sinquefield Sr., his brother, Tommy (Sonny) Sinquefield Jr. and his wife, Theo and his life partner, Debi Batey, all of Morgan, nieces and nephews, Joey Kimbrel, Jeffery Kimbrel, Kristen Ashley Washington, Donna Jordan and Russ Sinquefield, and three great-nephews, Jesse Jordan, Josey Jordan and Sage Washington.

Walter Emerson Sosville Sr.

Walter Emerson Sosville Sr., 71, of Baconton, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A private service will be held at a later date.

A native of Newark, N.J., formerly of Phillipsburg, N.J. and Lower Mt. Bethel, Pa., Walter has lived the last 10 years in Baconton, GA. He served in the U.S. Navy, from 1957 to 1962 and was stationed in Oceana, VA, Argentia, Newfoundland. He retired as a service technician with Elizabethtown Gas Co. in New Jersey and he also served as a police officer, fireman, and EMT in many of the communities in which he lived. He was active in many service organizations, most recently as a member of the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Joseph Sosville and Eleanor May Brown Sosville and a daughter Lori Ann Sosville.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Rougeux Sosville, four sons, Walter E. Sosville Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Lower Mt. Bethel, Pa., William Joseph Sosville and his wife, Nicole of Naples, Italy, Wayne Edward Sosville of Pottsville, Pa., and James William Sosville of Loganville, Pa., a daughter, Alicia Marie Lettenmaier of Easton, Pa., two brothers, William James Sosville of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert B. Sosville of Camden, N.J., three sisters, Eileen Marie Cleckner of Raritan, N.J., Kathleen May Wedekind of Wharton, N.J., and Patricia Ann Meola of Basking Ridge, N.J., seven grandchildren, Tammy, Travis, Kayla, Sean, Nicole, Skye, and Breanna, and two great-grandchildren, Jocelyne and Kaiden.

James Edward Tucker Sr.

The funeral service of James Edward Tucker Sr., 75, of Mitchell County, who died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at his residence, was conducted Friday at Mathews Funeral Home. Minister Faron W. Hamner officiated. Interment was in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Bridgeboro, Ga., Mr. Tucker resided in Albany before moving to Mitchell County 16 years ago. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Tucker.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Wells Tucker, four sons, James E. Tucker Jr. Mitchell County, Glenn Terry Tucker (Sherry), Albany, Mark Allan Tucker (Donna), Leesburg, Travis Tucker, Albany, two daughters, Christine Montgomery (Paul), Norfolk, Va., Shelia Tucker Hardy (Clay) Albany, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his companion, Nash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 1512-1 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707 or Albany Community Hospice, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA 31707.

Carolyn J. Watkins

The memorial service of Carolyn J. Watkins, 62, of Baconton, who died Friday, July 30, 2010 at Palmyra Medical Center, was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 3 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Story Jr. officiating.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Watkins resided in Baconton for the last year, moving from Sylvester. She was a homemaker, loved NASCAR and wrestling, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include three sons, Jackie Sargeant Jr and his wife, Kelly, of Worth County, Terry Allen Watkins and Buddy Massey and his wife, Sara, of Sylvester, a daughter, Mary J. Lawson of Baconton, a brother, James (Jim) Tucker and his wife Cindy of Wilsonville, Ala., 10, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Terri White

The graveside funeral service for Terri Lynn Flanagan White, 43, of Albany, who died Thursday July 29, 2010 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mathews Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Terri lived all of her life in Albany. She was a Cashier at Handy Andy in Sylvester. She was preceded in death by her father, Raleigh C. Flanagan.

Survivors include a daughter, Kayla White, a son Shelby White both of Albany, her mother, Blanche Flanagan of Albany, three brothers, Kerry Bunn, Tim Flanagan and Roger Flanagan all of Albany, a granddaughter, Kaydence White and a unborn grandson, a special uncle, Heyman Eubanks of Albany, and her special companion, Joseph Kelley of Albany.
