Alice Barrett, wife of former Dougherty County Commission chairman, dies

Alice Norris Barrett, 90, of Albany, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Her funeral service will be FRIDAY 11 AM at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.  The Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate.

Mrs. Barrett was born in Choudrant, LA, and she had lived in Albany since 1946.  She attended Louisiana Tech University and was a member of KD Sorority.  She left college to join the American Red Cross and served overseas in England and France during World War II.  While in France, she met her future husband.  Mrs. Barrett was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.  She was a past president and active member of the Charity League.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by her husband Gil Barrett, Albany; 2 daughters:  Ginny Morehead and her husband Lyon, Tulsa, OK, Becky Barrett, Albany; 4 grandchildren:  Byne O’Lear, Gil Salemi, Mollie Morehead, Jacob Morehead; 2 great-grandchildren:  Ryan O’Lear and Hannah O’Lear; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Thursday from 4-6 PM.
